What's the Difference Between a Training and Buckle Dog Collar?

When considering a dog collar, there are 2 main types: training collars and buckle collars. You'll then want to review the different materials, colors, and fashion.
Training collars are used to guide your dog. If you want to control a certain behavior, you can tug on the leash. This is called a check. As you can imagine, this tension caused by the check isn't a pleasant experience. As you train your dog, you are using the training collar check for negative reinforcement.
Once your dog gets past the initial training, you can opt for a buckle collar. Some people want to save some money and just jump ahead to this collar and skip the training collar. This is something that you don't want to do...as training a collar with a buckle collar is tough.
If you have a smaller dog, a harness may be appealing to you. These are great for dogs that do not pull. If your dog is medium sized or larger, skip the harness. If your vet says that your dog needs a harness, listen to your vet, as there are special purposes for certain types of collars and harnesses.
